AFL lodges appeals against Curnow brothers’ umpire contact rulings
The AFL has confirmed they will appeal two of Tuesday night’s tribunal decisions.
Both Ed and Charlie Curnow were charged with intentional umpire contact on Monday night by Match Review Officer Michael Christian but the tribunal opted to hand them $1000 fines.
General Manager of Football Operations Steve Hocking said the league would appeal the ruling because no tribunal “acting reasonably” could have come to the decision.
He also said the decision not to ban the pair was “manifestly inadequate”.
Tom Hawkins was handed a one-game ban last week after a similar charge.
The appeal will be heard at 3pm on Thursday.
