Alex Johnson opens up after playing his first game since 2012
Alex Johnson’s return was one of the heartwarming stories of 2018.
Johnson fought his way through five knee reconstructions and 12 surgeries to play his first senior game since the 2012 Grand Final.
That’s 2,136 days!
Johnson told Sunday Sport it was “surreal” to be back.
“I’m still pinching myself,” he said.

“Obviously, I had a fair few dark days over the journey.
“The support I’ve had around me throughout the last five-and-a-half years has been unbelievable.
“Mum and dad have ridden this rollercoaster with me, as well as my brother and sister and my girlfriend. They’ve all been on this journey with me.”
The Swans celebrated the comeback with a thrilling win over Collingwood.
