All Australian selectors accused of state bias

GWS chief Dave Matthews has called for more diversity on the All Australian selection panel after Stephen Coniglio and Phil Davis missed the 40-man squad.

“I just felt both he ( Coniglio) and Phil Davis should have joined Callan Ward and Lachie Whitfield in the 40, there’s no doubt about that,” Matthews said on Sportsday.

Matthews said there wasn’t a person on the selection panel based in New South Wales or Queensland.

“I think it’s an issue,” he said.

As for who he would have taken out to make way for the pair?

“A Victorian,” he said with a laugh.
