The state government has approved the state’s first gas extraction project in over a decade.

Energy analyst at Integrated Energy, Saul Kavonic, says the project will be the equivalent of 20 per cent of Victoria’s gas demand for the next five years.

“It matters, but it’s already counted, and it’s not enough … Victoria could be short of gas in the next few months,” he told Jacqui Felgate.

Press PLAY to hear his full concerns about the project

“A lot of politicians have left it too late,” he added.

Mr Kavonic also says the decision by the government is a sign they’re becoming “more pragmatic”.
