Number one draft pick Harley Reid’s hot start to life in the AFL has continued, leading to questions on when West Coast will try tie him down to a long-term deal.

Reid was one of his side’s best in their Western Derby victory over Fremantle on Saturday night, kicking a season-high three goals.

When asked by Matthew Richardson whether the Eagles will look to offer Reid a monster decade-long deal, Jimmy Bartel explained why his management wouldn’t want to enter long-term contract talks too quickly.

“I think West Coast will try but his management would rather shorter deals to back him in,” Bartel said on 3AW Football.

“The salary cap will jump by 20 or 30 per cent in a few years and that will continue through the life of his career.
