Back off: Port sends a message to Gold Coast over Ken Hinkley
Hands off our coach.
That’s the message Port Adelaide has sent to the Gold Coast after Suns boss Mark Evans contacted Ken Hinkley about his future.
News of a phone call from Evans to Hinkley’s manager Peter Blucher was largely based on speculation.
But this afternoon the Suns have confirmed the approach, and made their feelings clear.
“Port Adelaide is aware Gold Coast Suns chief executive Mark Evans placed a speculative phone call to Ken Hinkley’s manager Peter Blucher regarding Hinkley’s coaching future,” a Port Adelaide statement read.
“Port Adelaide has advised the Gold Coast Suns that Hinkley is under contract until the end of 2018 and is not on the market.
“The club is still conducting its 2017 season review following Saturday night’s elimination final loss to West Coast.
“Port Adelaide will resume contract discussions with Hinkley and his manager on completion of the review.”
Gold Coast is looking for a replacement for Rodney Eade, who left the club late in the 2017 season.
