THUNDER WIN BIG

Sydney Thunder have beaten Hobart Hurricanes comfortably, bowling the Hurricanes out for 109 on the way to a 57-run win.

Arjun Nair continues to impress this season, taking 2-17 off four overs. The 19-year-old Canberra-born spinner combined superbly with Fawed Ahmed to hand Hobart their second successive loss in BBL|07.

Alex Doolan was the only Hurricanes batter who offered any resistance, powering his way to 34 off 32 before Nair sent him packing.

INNINGS BREAK

It’s anyone’s game in Launceston as Hobart Hurricanes restrict Sydney Thunder to 5/166 off their 20 overs.

After starting like a house on fire, the home team fought back to stay in the match.

Sporting a new haircut, Clive Rose impressed with the ball and led the fightback, finishing with figures of 2-20 off his four overs. Despite dropping a catch in the deep, Jofra Archer looked composed with the ball once more, taking another wicket and going for just 22 runs in his four-over spell.

Jos Buttler took full advantage of Tom Rogers’ inexperience, hitting him for four sixes in the 12th over on the way to making 67, before being clean bowled.

PREVIEW

History is made tonight as BBL action comes to Launceston for the very
first time.

One of the quirks of the competition sees Hobart Hurricanes suit up
for just their second match this season, while tonight’s clash will be
Sydney Thunder’s fourth of BBL|07.

The Hurricanes have flown under the radar thus far, with their only
match resulting in a seven-wicket loss to the Renegades in Hobart.
West Indian Jofra Archer – who replaced England Test debutant Tom
Curran in the Hurricanes squad – looked promising in the defeat,
finishing with figures of 2-17 off his four overs.

How good could the home team be this season? Truth is, we’re still yet
to find out and tonight could provide some indication.

Sydney Thunder have tailed off after their opening night win against
the Sixers, losing to both the Strikers and Heat respectively. If they
have any ambition of reaching the finals this season, tonight is
simply a must-win for the Shane Watson-captained side.

for all the action from what should be a packed house in Launceston.
