Bigger goalsquare and starting positions among recommendations to AFL

There could soon be an 18-metre goal square (rectangle) and restricted starting positions at centre bounces following recommendations from the AFL’s competition committee.

They’ll be officially put to the AFL Commission this month.

The committee was formed as part of a plan to tackle congestion in the game.

A mid-season player exchange period is also set to be recommended.

The rules were trialled in the VFL late in the season.
