North Melbourne coach Brad Scott has a solution to stamping out incidents such as Toby Greene’s controversial marking action.

The GWS star forward has again come under scrutiny after using his leg as leverage in a marking contest in the Giants win over Sydney at the SCG on Saturday afternoon.

Appearing as a special guest co-host on Sunday Sport, Scott compared Greene’s actions to a Jarrad Waite – a player he used to coach.

“At North Melbourne, we had to tell Waite to just keep his knee bent,” he said.

“It’s a pretty easy fix I reckon, studs up is the way I’d go (for penalties) and it’s clear for everyone.”

Scott said he received a phone call from then-AFL Operations Manager Mark Evans concerning Michael Firrito a few years ago and welcomed the open feedback between clubs and players concerning contentious incidents.

“It was the best phone call,” he said.

“The phone call stopped everything.”
