Caro: Buckley deserved to be backed

Caroline Wilson says Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley deserved the club’s backing at the end of 2017.

The future of Buckley’s coaching tenure came under severe question after a season where the Pies finished 13th, but president Eddie McGuire chose to back him ahead of 2018.

Caro said Buckley “deserved another chance” as head coach.

“(The club) didn’t do the right thing by him,” she said.

“They had all those coaches and footy department bosses on one-year contracts, it was a lot of insecurity and a rabble.

“The person who really impressed me is Geoff Walsh who came back to the football club, he’s become such a pivotal figure.
