Speculation about James Hird returning to coach Essendon has sparked tensions between two of the biggest names in footy media on 3AW.

Wilson and Robinson have long been on opposing sides to each other, with Caro previously the chief football writer at The Age and Robbo still the chief footballer writer at the Herald Sun.

Caro thought the two were “acquaintances” and “always thought we got on OK”, but Friday night’s comments clearly show Robbo thinks otherwise.

3AW Football host Tim Lane was stuck in the middle, sitting alongside the pair on Friday and Saturday, and conceded on Saturday he found Robinson’s comments “full on”.
