Chicken protest: Vegan group protests at Geelong abattoir

A group of vegan activists are protesting at a chicken abattoir in Geelong, vowing to stay as long as it takes.

The protesters, from Direct Action Everywhere, were from the same group who marched into a steakhouse in the CBD and shouted at patrons on the weekend.

Tim told Neil Mitchell they wanted to “protest and disrupt” the business, Golden Farms.

“We want the media to come in here and show people what it is that this is industry is keeping from people,” he said.

He said the protest was prompted by the deaths of dozens of chickens after a truck rollover near Geelong last month.

Tim said they expected the police to try and move them on today.

“We will be staying here as long as possible, Neil,” he said.
