Cyclists: It appears somebody, or a group of people, are out to get you.

We’ve heard recently about the tacks that have been placed on paths in inner Melbourne and now there’s oil on the popular Capital City Trail footpath.

Discovered yesterday evening, firefighters had to attend to cover it with sand.

It’s believed no cyclists were harmed, however the Australian Cycle Alliance is furious.

“We all do silly things, but not as silly as throwing oil. This is something that should be treated as the highest criminal act, it’s not just vandalism,” Edward Hore, President of the Australian Cycle Alliance, said.

“This is right beside a river, so next time it rains oil will be going into the inlet there.

“And a rider could come down.”

A City of Melbourne spokesperson supplied 3AW with the following statement:

“As soon as we were made aware, City of Melbourne arranged for a contractor to clean the oil from the Capital City Trail.

It is illegal to dump or discharge oil, and in relevant cases, investigations may be undertaken by our local laws team.”
