‘Dead man walking’: Leigh Matthews’ instant reaction to Simpson coach sacking

Leigh Matthews says there’s no point Adam Simpson hanging around to coach a final game for West Coast.

The 2018 premiership coach parted ways with the Eagles on Tuesday, ending a 11-year-old coaching stint.

CEO Don Pyke made an offer to Simpson during the outgoing press conference, which would see him coach against Brisbane on Sunday before signing off.

But Leigh Matthews said on Wide World of Sports Simpson should depart immediately.

“It has got to a stage of looking like a dead man walking,” Matthews said.

“Adam Simpson might well be disappinted with what’s gone on in the last day or two.”
