Eddie McGuire launches strong defence of Luke Darcy following reaction to fiery radio interview

Eddie McGuire has defended Luke Darcy amid fierce criticism following a combative radio interview he conducted on Friday.

Darcy called football commentator and Port Adelaide 300-gamer Kane Cornes “mean-spirited” in a confronting live discussion, with Cornes challenging Darcy to come up with specifics examples on when he had crossed the line.

McGuire, who used to work with Darcy on breakfast radio, says the Western Bulldogs great was an empathetic person who wouldn’t have meant what he said.

“I sat next to Luke Darcy for 10 years for three hours every morning,” McGuire said on the Eddie and Jimmy podcast.

“He is a very deep thinker and he’s an empathetic person as I’ve met.”
