Essendon coach Ben Rutten says Dylan Shiel deserves “full credit” for his form reversal in recent weeks after he was controversially dropped earlier this year.

The former GWS midfielder was symptomatic of Essendon’s early season struggles, but has hit back hard of late, with the Bombers winning four of their past five games.

Speaking on 3AW, Rutten said it wasn’t easy making the call to leave him out of the side.

“It’s a really difficult one as a coach,” he said.
