‘Executed’: Sly’s damning comments after Shane Patton’s resignation

Crime reporter John Silvester, better known as Sly of the Underworld, has claimed Shane Patton was “executed” by the state government, after his resignation as Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police last night.
Sly said Patton is “bitter and devastated” after police members passed a vote of no confidence in his leadership on Friday, and stated the former top cop has been used as a “scapegoat” by the state government.
“Shane Patton was executed by this government as efficiently as any gangland hit,” Sly said on 3AW Breakfast.

“They can turn around and use the oldest trick in the book, blame someone, find a scapegoat, rebadge, and move on,” he said.
Emergency Management Commissioner Rick Nugent will step up as acting Police Chief Commissioner, after Patton’s departure.
“What they don’t need coming into an election is a controversial appointment, so I would suspect that he is certainly the front runner once he gets behind it, but my god has he got some work to do,” Sly said.
