Victoria Racing Club’s new dress rules will allow men to wear tailored shorts in the members’ areas at this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington.

National Fashion Editor at The Age and Sydney Morning Herald, Melissa Singer, says tailored shorts have been a long-time trend among many European fashion designers.

“I think it is a sign that the VRC is trying to stay up with trends and also attract younger race goers which has been well documented … it’s one of their biggest challenges,” Ms Singer told Neil Mitchell.
