Fire Rescue Victoria system outage may last days
FIRST on 3AW MORNINGS
Victorian firefighters will only be able to use mobile phones and radios for callouts for up to three days due to a major IT systems outage.
The disruption began around 4am on Thursday and 3AW Mornings was tipped off to the problem a few hours later.
The outage forced the shutdown of the IT system and is impacting the dispatch system and website, as well as FRV’s email and phone systems.
More than 24 hours on and the system remains down.
Instead of automatically receiving calls from ESTA on a computer monitor, firefighters are using mobile phones and radios.
It could take another three days for the system to be brought back online.
FRV Acting Commissioner Gavin Freeman yesterday refused to say whether it was the result of a cyber attack.
