Football tragedy: Margaret Varcoe dies after on-field footy injury
Margaret Varcoe, the sister of Collingwood footballer Travis Varcoe, has died in hospital after an accidental on-field head clash during a women’s footy game in Adelaide.
Ms Varcoe, 27, was able to walk away from the on-field collision on Sunday, but later collapsed in the changerooms.
Her condition did not improve over the next few days and she passed away in hospital.
Collingwood is supporting Travis Varcoe through the tragedy. It is unclear how much time he’ll spend away from the club.
The Magpies will face the Eagles in a qualifying final in Perth on Saturday next week.
