Gillon McLachlan has reaffirmed his strong support for the new football stadium in Tasmania.

Both houses of parliament are set to finally vote on the terms of the $1.13 billion Macquarie Point stadium in the coming weeks, with the development still a major point of contention across the stadium.

The former AFL CEO said that while change would be hard, the benefits of the new stadium would outweigh the negatives when it does eventually open.

“The stadium and the team will change that state,” he told 3AW’s Eddie Summerfield.

“Change is difficult.”
