North Melbourne has survived an almighty scare to win by 17 points.

The Roos led by as many as 45 points before the Blues launched a stunning comeback.

Carlton hit the front early in the final term before North steadied.

3AW expert Matthew Richardson said defenders seem confused about when they are allowed to rush behinds on the goal line.

Carlton coach Brendon Bolton spoke to 3AW before the game.

“Because we’ve got so many youngsters, we’ve prioritised good method,” he said.

“We’re doing a lot of work in that area, but it’s a work in progress.”
