Giants out gun gallant Pies in bruising MCG clash



GWS have fought off a gutsy Collingwood outfit to run out 16 point winners at the MCG. The Magpies hit the front mid way through the fourth quarter but the Giants were able to bounce back thanks to a big final quarter from Stephen Coniglio and Zac Langdon.

The Giants didn’t have it all their own way in front of 30,941 fans but kicked 5.3 to 3.0 in the final term.

GWS lead at every break and were able to scrape home against a undermanned Collingwood side. Tim Broomhead broke his leg in the first quarter while Darcy Moore did not return after half time.

Tom Scully also ended up being stretchered off after breaking his ankle in the first quarter.



Collingwood trail the Giants by just one point at the final change in a bruising encounter at the MCG.

Brodie Grundy and Jeremy Cameron are the only multiple goal kickers for the sides with two each.

Darcy Moore did not return after half time and is out of the game with a hamstring injury.



GWS leads by five points at the half as Collingwood continue to heap the pressure on the premiership favorites.

An even spread of goalkickers for both sides.

The news of the first half was the injuries to Tim Broomhead (Broken Leg), Tom Scully (Broken Ankle) and Darcy Moore (Hamstring).



Serious injuries to Tom Scully and Tim Broomhead were the story of the first quarter.

Broomhead has a broken leg after kicking the post early in the first term. While Scully has injured his ankle after a tackle that saw his leg bend underneath him.

The heat is on Collingwood as they take on GWS on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides have a late withdrawal: Ben Reid (hip) is out for the Pies, and Toby Greene (hamstring) is out for GWS.

Tim Broomhead comes in for Collingwood, while Greene has been replaced by Aidan Corr.
