HAPPY HAWKS

Hawthorn has thumped Melbourne by 67 points at the MCG.

Liam Shiels was prominent in midfield, while Luke Breust booted four goals in attack.

But the story of the day belonged to David Mirra, the 27-year-old rookie who finally made his Hawthorn debut in Hawthorn’s back six.

Mirra told 3AW it was a dream come true.

“I’m lost for words,” he said.

“On the final siren, I had my head in my hands. If you looked at me you’d think we’d lost.

“I just had to take a moment to soak it in. It’s what dreams are made of.”

Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin spoke to 3AW before the game.

He said the Demons have a plan to curb the influence of star Hawk Tom Mitchell.

“We’ll be putting a tag on him,” Goodwin said.

“He’s having a significant impact around the footy so we’re going to a bit of time into him.”

THE BUILD-UP

This one’s set to be a fiery clash, with both teams shooting for their third win of the season.

Hawthorn is a side out to prove last year’s slide is just temporary, while a win for Melbourne would do wonders for their belief that they are true contenders.

Talented young Demon Angus Brayshaw makes his first appearance for the season, replacing Dom Tyson (illness), while the Hawks have made something of a surprise selection, dropping young star Ryan Burton.

27-year-old journeyman David Mirra will make his AFL debut for Hawthorn.
