FULL TIME

Hawthorn has won by 35 points, though the match never reached any great heights.

Isaac Smith was sensational, racking up 24 touches and booting four goals from midfield, while Harry Morrison played the best game of his short career as a link-up player.

Luke Breust and Jack Gunston booted three goals in attack, and midfield star Tom Mitchell racked up a typically prolific 45 touches.

The result puts Hawthorn in the top four, pending the results of Sunday’s matches.

Jack Steven was the Saints’ best, winning six clearances from 29 touches.

However, their inefficiency in front of goal (see below!) was fatal. No Saint kicked multiple goals.

MISS OF THE SEASON?

The Saints started with seven behinds before their first goal.

It really should have been six.

Tim Membrey put in a contender for the wrong sort of award with this shocker:

=====

IS THERE A BEAR IN THE HOUSE?

A fan at University of Tasmania Stadium made a VERY strange heckle during the first quarter.

Daniel Harford said it sounded like a bear giving birth!

THE BUILD-UP

Hawthorn has two reasons to respond this week.

They were woeful against North last Sunday, and were smashed last time they met St Kilda in Tasmania.

But the Saints have a point to prove themselves.

They’ve been underwhelming so far in 2018, entering this match 16th on the ladder.

The stage is set for both sides to have a real crack!
