FULL TIME

Geelong has won by 12 points, but it probably should have been more.

The Cats had 31 scores to 14, but wayward kicking in front of goal kept the Swans in touch right to the end.

Geelong champion Gary Ablett told 3AW it’s always good to come away from the SCG with a win.

“We nearly kicked ourselves out of it,” he said.

Ablett also responded to critics of his 2018 season.

He said his first year back at the Cats has been “interesting”.

“It’s been a different year for me, in terms of the position I’ve been playing,” Ablett said.

“I’ve been used to spending the majority of time through the midfield.

“It’s something I’ve got to embrace. I’ve got to work on my forward craft.

“I’m happy with my year to date.”

Swans coach John Longmire spoke to 3AW Football before the game.

He said he’s keeping the faith in young forward Tom McCartin, who has been thrown into the deep end in the absence of Sam Reid.

“He’s come into the team and he’s the youngest player in the AFL,” Longmire said.

“To play centre half forward for us and to do the job he does for the last few weeks has been a real credit to him.”

But Longmire said the Swans are always a better team when Reid is playing.

THE BUILD-UP

The Cats will be itching to bounce back after letting one slip against the Bulldogs last week.

But the Swans have more than enough incentive of their own, as they cling to a spot in the Top 4.

This one has everything: superstars, high stakes, and two great teams in need of a win.
