A state government decision to suspend a bungled fridge scheme has left honest business owners devastated.

Under the scheme, carbon credits were awarded for installing free fridges as part of the Victorian Energy Upgrades scheme.

But some companies dumped unwanted appliances on businesses that didn’t want or ask for them, triggering the suspension of the scheme until 2023.

Chris, who spent more than $100,000 on a container of fridges which is about to arrive in Melbourne, says the suspension has devastated honest businesses.

“We don’t know what to do,” he told Tom Elliott.

“Why are we getting punished?”
