Matthew Richardson says Charlie Curnow’s forward smarts is one of the reason he seems to draw free kicks inside 50.

The big-bodied forward has kicked 17 goals so far this season and has formed a formidable partnership with Harry McKay.

While some believes Curnow receives favourable treatment from umpires, Richardson says Curnow’s forward craft means he immediately worries opposition defenders.

“He’s obviously a very smart forward,” he said on 3AW Football.

“He uses his ball so well in marking contests – he makes early contact on the defenders – and when that happens the defenders start to grab him and that’s why he gets free kicks.”
