AFL boss Gillon McLachlan has categorically ruled out separating fans at games due to crowd violence.

The proposal has been raised following shocking scenes at Geelong on Saturday night.

Speaking on 3AW, McLachlan said the AFL wouldn’t be following the lead of sports overseas and splitting fans of teams into different parts of the ground.

“It won’t happen,” McLachlan said.

“There’s been a handful of incidents this year, which is a handful too many – I accept that and take responsibility for it – but people need to be held to accountable for their behaviour.”
