Jake Melksham undergoes surgery after fight with Steven May
Jake Melksham has undergone surgery as a result of a scrap with Steven May on Sunday night.
He will be unavailable in selection in Round 13.
Melksham and May reportedly had to be separated after an altercation inside Prahran restaurant, Entrecôte, on Sunday night.
Melbourne initially described the fight as a “light hearted scuffle”.
But it has seen him need to undergo surgery on his hand to clear up what the club is describing as “an infection”.
“As a footy club we are deeply embarrassed by the events of Sunday and Jake and Steven understand that they have let our club, their teammates and our members down. I want to make it very clear that as a club, we do not condone violence of any manner, and the fact that our players allowed any disagreement to escalate to a physical level is completely unacceptable,” GM Football Performance Alan Richardson said in a statement.
May has been suspended for a match after breaching concussion protocols, meaning he will miss the vital Queen’s Birthday match against Collingwood.
