Jarryd Roughead steps down as Hawthorn captain
Jarryd Roughead is no longer captain of Hawthorn.
The champion Hawk has stood down from the role he took over from Luke Hodge at the start of 2017.
“It’s been an honour and privilege to captain the club for the past two years, but I feel it’s in the best interests of myself and the club to hand over the reins,” Roughead said.
AFL.com.au reporter Riley Beveridge said Isaac Smith and Liam Shiels shaped as the frontrunners to replace Roughead in the role.
“You’d have to assume they’d be the leading candidates,” he said.
“I don’t think we’ll get a decision before Christmas.”
