Joel Selwood names Geelong’s starting centre square in Round 1

Joel Selwood can’t guarantee his spot in the centre when the first ball is bounced in 2018.

With the arrival of Gary Ablett, Geelong now has more star midfielders than can fit at a centre bounce.

Sportsday host Dwayne Russell asked the Cats’ skipper to name the four players who will start in the middle at the first stoppage of next season.

“It’s probably Zac Smith in the ruck, I can give you that as a definite,” Selwood said.

“It looks like we’ll have a runner in there, (Mark) Blicavs or Scott (Selwood), which you probably didn’t expect me to say.”

Selwood said he would have to battle it out with Ablett and Patrick Dangerfield for the remaining two spots.

“I might have been pushed aside now,” he said.

Geelong takes on Melbourne at the MCG in Round 1 next year.
