Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir says the club wasn’t desperate to secure a big-name signing during the trade period, despite being armed with draft picks and salary cap space to do so.

“I think you can fall into the boat of going a bit early on trades and trying to get big names in,” Longmuir told 3AW on Friday.

“We have probably tried to do that a few times throughout our history and it’s probably set us back.

“The important thing to remember is we want to build sustained success and that’s usually done through the draft.

“We don’t want to be one-hit wonders.”
