Kennett backs AFL investment despite Liberal Party opposition
Jeff Kennett fully supports the government’s latest investment in Melbourne’s stadiums.
The Labor government announced a massive $500 million spending spree on Friday including upgrades to Etihad Stadium and Ikon Park.
The Liberal Party has taken issue with the policy, but the Hawthorn president – and former Liberal leader – told 3AW Football he supports it.
“I don’t assess it on a political basis,” Kennett said on Sunday.
“I’m saying as president of Hawthorn that I think the deal is a very good deal. I like seeing people working together and delivering positive outcomes.”
The policy includes the provision that the AFL Grand Final will stay at the MCG until 2057.
“I’m not quite sure where it might otherwise have been played.”
