Leaked Shane Mumford video won’t make a difference to his bid for AFL comeback, says Mick Warner

Mick Warner says the emergence of a video depicting Shane Mumford snorting a white powder won’t jeopardise his bid to play in the AFL next year.

The three-year-old footage emerged on Tuesday, with the GWS Giants confirming his actions were “completely counter” to the values of the club.

But the 3AW Football commentator and Herald Sun footy writer told Tom Elliott he still expected Mumford to come out of retirement and play for the Giants in 2019.

“I would think that Shane Mumford will still nominate and be picked up by GWS and be playing in the AFL next year, maybe sitting out the first two rounds,” he said.

“The Giants are desperate for him to play and he’s very fit. He retired with a navicular problem, which at the time doctors thought he’d never play again but he’s since taken up boxing so he’s fit as a fiddle.

“They’ll let this play out and he’ll be playing AFL next year.”
