Leigh Matthews calls out football people ‘intoxicated’ by Gather Round ‘Kool-Aid’
Leigh Matthews has called out what appears to be an overly positive sentiment surrounding the second edition of Gather Round.
Thousands of fans made the pilgrimage to South Australia for last weekend’s event, but Leigh Matthews says if the nine matches were played at their regular venue rather than all in Adelaide the surrounding areas, more fans would have actually attended.
“It’s fantastic for Adelaide and it’s a great buzz down there,” Leigh Matthews said on Wide World of Sports.

“There’s a lot of people in the footy community that were over there. There might have been 40-50,000 fans travel over (to Adelaide), but that means there’s a few hundred thousand fans that didn’t.
“The movers and shapers have been intoxicated by the Kool-Aid. They all think it’s the best thing since sliced bread.”
