FULL TIME
GWS has sent a statement across the league with an eight-goal win over the Bulldogs.
Jon Patton booted four goals, while Dylan Shiel and Josh Kelly were prolific across midfield.
Toby Greene is on report for a collision with Luke Dahlhaus (see below).
Former Tribunal member Daniel Harford says he’d be “surprised” if Greene is in trouble.
“Most fair-minded people would think it wasn’t unreasonable to protect himself,” Harf said.
“(But) it’s not something we want to see much of.”

GREENE REPORTED
Toby Greene could be in trouble – again – for a collision with Luke Dahlhaus.
Greene was reported for rough conduct after he stuck a boot out to grab a floating ball, collecting the Bulldog in the face.
It instantly divided opinions on social media:
Harf: “He can be sanctioned for it.”
Shaw: “There’s no way it’s intentional.”
Doc: “Dahlhaus has been stapled and is ready to come back.” https://t.co/9f4auDjEmO

That was interesting, foot to head is a free kick but if it was knee would it have been? Never seen that before, initial thought was play on

Foot to the face ain’t a free kick let alone reportable. Bit like Ash scampi standing on heads taking hangers 😂

Blokes have been doing that to protect themselves for years! Just unfortunate for him flush

Just when you think you couldn’t hate Toby Greene anymore… wow. You are a flog… #afldogsgiants

Not saying it is correct. But if the MRP stay consistent, Greene’s 2017 might be over. #AFLDogsGiants

Greene had eyes on the ball the whole time. No issue…shouldn’t of been reported. #afldogsgiants

HALF TIME
The Giants lead a tight contest by four points.
The Bulldogs had all the play in the second term, racking up 22 inside 50s to four, but somehow couldn’t boot more goals.
Dylan Shiel suffered a possible injury concern to his already unstable shoulder.
Leading sports medic Doc Larkins said the club is “rolling the dice” with Shiel by letting him play out the season.
“A younger player, I suspect, they would put aside,” Doc said.
Beva: “The Dogs’ back 6 as named in the GF are all out. Morris, Wood, Johannisen, Boyd (injured), Roberts (emergency), and Hamling (Freo).”

=====
GWS CEO Dave Matthews joined the 3AW commentary box before the match.
He responded to Matthew Lloyd’s claim that star Giant Josh Kelly had one foot out the door.
“He’s very engaged,” Matthews said.
“I’ve never had a problem with the way he looks people in the eyes.”

Injured Bulldog Dale Morris spoke to 3AW before the game.
Morris laughed off the articles which put his photo on the story of teammate Matthew Boyd’s retirement.
He said people are often mixing them up.
“How do you think he keeps winning Best and Fairests?!” Morris said.
Morris’ arm injury will keep him out for another 5-6 weeks.

THE BUILD-UP
The Giants’ first organic rivalry heats up on Friday night with it all on the line.
Amid the defections of Ryan Griffen, Tom Boyd, and Callan Ward, as well as the memory of last year’s dramatic Prelim Final, there’s no love lost between these two clubs.
GWS’ place in the top two is teetering on a knife-edge, with a number of clubs ready and waiting to pounce should they slip up.
And the Bulldogs know they also need to keep winning if they are to keep their flag defence alive.
Something has to give.
