Man with machete detained by police at shopping centre in Melbourne’s west

A man armed with a machete has been detained by police at Highpoint Shopping Centre this morning.

“I thought they’d all been collected in the machete bins,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

Police swooped on the 18-year-old at around 10am this morning, tackling the man to the ground as part of an ongoing investigation into recent arson attacks in the CBD, disarming him of a massive machete.

The Tarneit man was taken into custody and is now being interviewed by detectives.
