Opposition Leader Matthew Guy has told disgraced Kew MP Tim Smith not to contest the 2022 election.

It comes after Mr Smith crashed his car into a Hawthorn home on Saturday while driving with a blood alcohol reading more than double the legal limit.

“I made it very clear to Tim that he wouldn’t find his way onto the front bench of any parliamentary Liberal Party that I lead,” Mr Guy said.

“I made it clear that I didn’t want him to nominate at the next election and that I didn’t believe he should nominate for the seat of Kew.”

Mr Smith has not made a final decision on his future in politics.
