Matthew Lloyd has defended Collingwood ruckman Mason Cox after he was embroiled in controversy on the weekend.

The Pies big man was pictured bumping into GWS assistant coach Shane Mumford in a bizarre pre-game incident, which he has since clarified on his podcast.

Following the explanation – where Cox said he was completing the final part of his warm up as the Giants ruckmen were warming up – Lloyd said the footy would should “cut him some slack” despite fierce criticism in recent days.

“I don’t think there was any malice or arrogance in what he was doing,” Lloyd told Wide World of Sports.

“If his explanation stacks up with the vision, I think we should cut him some slack.”
