Matthew Lloyd says Essendon made the right call in sacking coach Ben Rutten.

But he said there is no doubt the situation could have been handled better.

The Bombers confirmed the news on Sunday following a board meeting.

“I can fully understand the club’s decision,” Lloyd said on 3AW Football.

“The performance just wasn’t good enough, you watch them every week and there was just nothing about them that you thought ‘OK they’re on the right track’ on the way they’re developing the footy.”
