Matthew Lloyd ‘respects’ Essendon’s decision to keep Merrett at the club

Despite a strong push to leave the Bombers, six-time Crichton medallist Zach Merrett will remain at the club after Essendon declined Hawthorn’s final offer for the 30-year-old.

Club great Matthew Lloyd “respects” Essendon’s decision to hold firm and keep their skipper, saying “they probably did the right thing”.

“They probably did the right thing, if they didn’t feel they got the player from Hawthorn they wanted,” Lloyd said on The Trade Off Podcast.

“I respect what they’ve done in that situation.”
