Max Gawn admits he’d be happy to step aside as Melbourne captain if deemed best for the club in the longer term.

Speaking after being confirmed as Victoria’s latest recruit ahead of February’s Origin clash against Western Australia, Gawn he would be “happy to get behind” a potential new captaincy choice.

“It’s whatever the club needs to be honest,” he said on Thursday morning.

“I have got no real ego (being the captain), but if the club feels it’s best to push on in a different way then I’m more than happy to get behind it.”
