Nat Fyfe has slammed a “fake news” story that claimed he almost retired.

Fyfe was quoted in the Herald Sun saying he contemplated walking away from the game after the 2013 Grand Final loss to Hawthorn.

The Fremantle superstar had made the comments in an AFL Players Association podcast, Captain’s Call.

But Fyfe told 3AW Football the comments were taken out of context.

“This is probably my first experience with fake news,” he told Jimmy Bartel.

“Part of our hour-long discussion (in the podcast) touched on some of the thoughts and contemplations after losing a Grand Final.

“Naturally, the mind wanders.

“I was quoted as saying that retirement was something that ran across my mind but there was no genuine consideration ever put towards that.”
