Nathan Buckley explains impact of leadership group on Jordan De Goey

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says the club’s leadership group needs take “a lot of credit” for Jordan De Goey’s brilliant form.

De Goey has been sensational for the Magpies this season after previously struggling with issues off the field that threatened to derail his career.

Speaking with Sportsday, Buckley refused to take the credit for getting De Goey’s career back on track.

“Jordan has accepted the challenges that have come his way internally and been able to take those lessons on board and applied himself … (But) if I had to isolate one of the strongest relationships, it’d be between Jordan and the leadership group,” Buckley said.

“Our leaders have been equal part stick with the carrot and they’ve really walked him along the journey.

“They’ve given him really strong tram tracks to keep him on path.

“I think the leaders need to take a lot of credit.”
