North Melbourne’s Emma Kearney says it’s unfair to target AFLW players and their skill levels as the leading cause of concern for the state of the competition.

Kearney, who stepped down from her side’s captaincy last week, says there is a significant soft cap disadvantage in the women’s league.

Press PLAY to hear Emma’s full chat, including her reflections on the captaincy and North Melbourne’s centenary celebrations.

“I think it’s a bit of a cop out that it’s up to just us,” she told 3AW Football’s Laura Spurway.

“Yes, we all have a role to play in this, but at the end of the day it’s really hard when we have limitations put on us based on what resourcing we have around the club.”
