PETA calls for roadside memorial for chickens killed in truck crash

Animal rights group PETA has asked VicRoads to consider erecting a tombstone in memory of the chickens killed in yesterday’s truck rollover near Geelong.
As first detailed on 3AW Mornings, the group has even released a design, pictured above, of the memorial, which doubles as a suggestion to “try vegan”.
PETA say they would pay for the tombstone creation, erection and maintenance.
“It’s a stretch of road where people do need to slow down and think about the precious cargo they have in the back, so it would hopefully prevent future transport accidents and persuade people to make kinder choices in their life,” Laura Weyman-Jones said.

Tony Jones suggested it was insensitive.
“What I have an issue with is you’re trivialising road carnage, and that’s what you’re doing by wanting to put a tombstone with an image of bloody forlorn chicken … at a time when there is so much carnage on the road,” he said.
VicRoads is yet to respond to PETA.
