Peter Handscomb’s strong start to his Test career has drawn comparisons with Michael Bevan.

Handscomb scored 54 in Australia’s first innings of the Second Test against Pakistan, following on from 105 in the first and 54 against South Africa on debut.

He is the first player to hit a half-century in all of his first three Tests since Michael Bevan in 1994.

Damien Fleming told Macquarie’s Summer of Cricket Bevan was a prodigious talent.

‘I grew up in the underage with him, and it was Darren Lehmann and Michael Bevan who were going to be the next superstars,’ Fleming said.

‘Bevan was a real innovator.’

Tom Moody said Bevan was up with Darren Lehmann and Matthew Elliott as the most difficult Shield batsmen to bowl to.
