Daniel Harford blasts the “bloodsport” around MRP decisions
Daniel Harford has blasted the scrutiny over onfield indiscretions in the AFL.
Harford, a former Tribunal member, told 3AW Football said social media is a factor, but media coverage is just as much to blame.
Commentary has spread like wildfire since GWS forward Toby Greene was reported for a high boot on Bulldog Luke Dahlhaus.
“It’s become a bloodsport, Monday afternoon MRP watch,” Harf said.
“The want to get players out of the game – to hunt someone – from the football media and the fans alike isn’t good for the game.”
Harf said fans respond to the way information is presented.
“We look for headlines and sensationalism,” he said.
“It’s an indictment on us as a media industry… and I don’t think it’s good for the game.”
