Tom Bellchambers goes in to bat for his opponent Majak Daw

3AW Football

Tom Bellchambers has gone in to bat for his under-fire opponent Majak Daw.

Daw received a mighty spray from his coach Brad Scott during Saturday’s clash with Essendon, his 31st at AFL level.

North’s ruckman won 33 hitouts, took two contested marks, and laid five tackles, but Scott admitted after the game he was “disappointed” in some of Daw’s efforts around the ground.

But his opponent on the day Bellchambers told 3AW Football on Sunday Daw has a bright future.

“I think he’s played 30-odd games,” Bellchambers said.

“When I was 30 games in, I was still learning as a ruckman.

“He’s still got a lot to learn but he’s a physical specimen so, from that point of view, he’s on the right track.”

Bellchambers said Daw won the centre bounces, but the overall battle between them was even.
